CARRIER LE CLEMENCEAU ARRIVES IN TEESIDE |
![]() |
The 32,000 ton French aircraft carrier Le Clemenceau
was towed into a breakers' yard on Tees-side last week to be dismantled
by Able UK. Able has a lot of experience in dismantling ships, oil rigs
and power stations. Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth have commended
the plans which Able say they have to break up the Clemenceau in an
environmentally responsible way. Studies indicate that, like the Hartlepool
power station next door, the dry dock co-habits happily with the waders
in the nature reserve across the water. [Source: Sunday
